Detailed Meaning

Introduction

Here, Lord Krishna answers how He responds to His loving devotees: to those who constantly worship Him with love, He Himself grants the buddhi-yoga, the divine understanding, through which they come to Him. The verse reveals that God's grace meets the devotee's sincere effort.

Essence

Grace Responds to Love

Teṣāṁ satata-yuktānām (to those ever united with Me): The Lord speaks of devotees who are steady and constant in their connection, not those who remember Him only occasionally.

Bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam (who worship with love): The word prīti means affection. The Lord emphasises that worship must be accompanied by genuine love. Ritual alone, without the heart, does not carry the same power.

Dadāmi buddhi-yogam (I give the yoga of understanding): This is one of the most tender phrases in the Gita. Understanding of the highest truth is a gift. A student may study, practise and long for realisation, but the final awakening is bestowed by the Lord's grace, just as the sun rises of its own accord while we prepare for the day.

Yena mām upayānti te (by which they come to Me): This divine understanding is the means by which the devotee draws near to the Lord. It is not an end in itself but a bridge to union.

Effort and Grace Together

Verses 9 and 10 should be read together. In verse 9, the devotee offers mind, life and conversation. In verse 10, the Lord offers wisdom. Neither is complete without the other. We must make sincere effort, yet we should remain humble, knowing that the deepest insight arrives as grace.

Message for Everyday Life (Sincere Effort with Humble Trust)

Do your part wholeheartedly: Whether in study, work or spiritual practice, continuity matters more than intensity. Keep showing up with love.

Trust the unseen help: After you have given your best, have faith that insight and solutions often arrive in ways beyond your own calculation.
