Detailed Meaning
Introduction
Lord Krishna responds, saying that out of grace he has shown Arjuna this supreme form through his own yogic power. This radiant, universal, infinite and primal form has been seen by no one before Arjuna.
Essence
A Gift of Grace, Not an Achievement
Lord Krishna's reply begins with kindness. Before addressing Arjuna's fear, he explains how the vision came about and clarifies that it was an act of favour.
Mayā prasannena tavārjunedam (by me, pleased with you, Arjuna, this was shown): The word prasanna means gracious and pleased. The vision was granted because the Lord was well disposed toward Arjuna.
Rūpaṁ paraṁ darśitam ātma-yogāt (the supreme form was shown through my own yoga): Ātma-yoga means the Lord's own power. Arjuna did not earn the vision by effort alone; it was revealed by the Lord's will.
Tejomayaṁ viśvam anantam ādyam (full of radiance, universal, infinite, primal): Four qualities are named. The form is made of light, contains the universe, has no end and is the original source.
Yan me tvad anyena na dṛṣṭa-pūrvam (which no one other than you has seen before): This highlights the rarity of the gift. It is a mark of the Lord's special affection for Arjuna.
Effort and grace: The Gita holds both together. Devotion, humility and discipline prepare the ground, but the highest realisation is received as grace.
Message for Everyday Life (Recognising Grace in Our Lives)
Notice what has been given to you: Much of what we have, including health, opportunities and loving people, came through no effort of our own. Seeing this makes us humble and generous.
Practical approach: At the end of each day, name one or two things you received without earning them. This habit builds gratitude and reduces entitlement.
